Projects

I’m a life-long Unitarian Universalist, independent consultant working with congregations, UU minister’s spouse and television producer. I’m passionate about creating amazing communities. I believe we need them to be happy, grow and lead the change we want to see in the world.  This site features information and links to my Unitarian Universalist ministry and media projects.

Ballou Channing District congregations

Ballou Channing District Growth Consultant
bcduua.org

Fall of 2009 I was recruited by the Ballou Channing District to serve as an engaged growth consultant.  This position, initially funded by a 2007 grant from the UUA’s Association Sunday, is focused on leading trainings, developing new resources and offering brief direct consultations.  I offer additional services including retreat facilitation, guest speaking and more extensive consultations are offered on a fee for service basis.

The UU Growth Blog
UUGrowth.com

The growth of Unitarian Universalism and UU congregations is an urgent issue  with the Unitarian Universalist Association.  As my consulting practice grew, including working as a growth consultant for my home district, I decided to use a blog to share resources and engage with those interested in growth.

The UU Growth Lab
UUGrowthLab.com

A Facebook group, the UU Growth Lab is a free space and think tank for Unitarian Universalist Change Agents. You may read more on the lab website.  In early 2011 I launched the lab in response to minister colleagues expressing to me that they didn’t feel safe sharing opinions on a public blog that might go against institutional norms, power structures and so on.  I had also read the book SWITCH which discusses the need to create a space for reformers to gather, exchange ideas and organize.  It took one day for 50 people to join the lab.  In three months membership hit 500.  The lab’s website was made to make the existence of the lab visible to those not on Facebook.  If you’re on Facebook  Click Here to join the lab.

UU TV
UnitarianUniversalism.tv/

Launched March 13, 2008  UU  TV (previously uuplanet.tv) brings together the  UU videos from across the web making it easier for newcomers, members and friends to explore the world of Unitarian Universalism. There are currently over 1,300 UU videos on UU TV.  These videos are first found online by searches I have programmed, then each video is approved before going onto the site.  What’s the point?  This site brings together content from multiple video sharing sites allowing anyone to explore videos easily, including longer sermon videos those not found on Youtube.

UU Small Group Ministry Network
SmallGroupMinistry.net

In 2001 I launched the first website dedicated to Unitarian Universalist small group ministry. From 2001-2004 this site was a personal project of mine. I worked with Calvin Dame, Bob Hill and Glenn Turner to compile their resources and others as they became available.  Running this site led to fielding questions from UUs across our association. When this became an unfunded part-time job  these questions became a part-time job I decided we needed an organization to do this work. I   In 2004, after nagging Calvin for a year, we  decided to launch a network.  After meeting M’ellen Kennedy at the April 2004 Center for Community Values (CCV) small group ministry conference the three moved forward. The network as an organization was launched at the 2004 UUA General Assembly, including a membership program  and the SGM Quarterly journal. Today the UU SGM Network is an independent not-for-profit supporting small group ministry in our member congregations.  I continue to be a periodic contributor, advisor and long term fan of the UU SGM Network!

Alice the Chalice
AlicetheChalice.com

A number of years ago I developed the character Alice the Chalice as a tool for getting kids excited about our faith.  So far, as a test, I have shared some  Alice the Chalice coloring pages. The response has been great so far.  Amy and I would love to make an Alice the Chalice video series. We know what we want to make, its just a matter of securing some funding.  For now, you can enjoy the coloring pages.  If you have ideas for Alice the Chalice videos and related resources please feel free to contact me.

UU FAQ
uufaq.com

This website was an experiment in word of mouth outreach.  When I first married Amy, a UU minister, and moved to a new town I kept talking to people about Unitarian Universalism.  Being married to a minister it comes up all the time.  I found that people I was getting to know, despite being interested in more information, tended not to follow through with visiting the UUA’s site when I gave them that URL.  I wondered if an “association” site was intimidating. I created the UUFAQ to see if that would work better.  It seemed to.  This site is was meant to be a time limited experiment, however people started sharing it.  It is now quite out of date. I  hope to someday upgrade it to a video driven UU FAQ site.

Other Projects

I have a growing queue of projects I am planning to work on from specific videos  and websites, to larger scale congregationally based projects.  As always timing for these are based on funding and my other work.  Interested in what I’m quietly working on behind the scenes?  Ask me the next time you see me in person.  When will that be?  That’s up to you.  When are you going to invite me to work with your congregation or district? ;-)
