Guest Posts

Guest posts are welcome from  Unitarian Universalist leaders.  If we haven’t met, please first join my UU PLANET Facebook group, and if you’re on Twitter, connect with me  @UUPLANET.  You can also reach out directly. Contact me here.

CORPORATE social media marketers, no guest posts for you!

If you have ideas, stories, resources, and/or show and tell congregational photos and video related to Unitarian Universalist growth, outreach, media, social media, small groups, innovation, and other future thinking topics, I’d love to hear from you.  Feel free to check in  before you take time to write a post to see if it is a match for this site.

Thanks!
Peter

Guest Post Quick Start Template

The following is a general guide  for guest posts on this site including a general template you may follow,  reminders of the details I need to appropriately credit you, and answers to frequently asked questions.

You can submit the following by email, attaching the text and associated media, or by writing your post in Google Doc with all your images and links already included.  That makes it fast for me to share as a post.

1 — ONE LINE BIO

Share a one line intro of who you are for me to share including link to any affiliated websites you’d like to highlight.

2 — YOUR PHOTO

If available, provide a profile image photo of you (attach or link to it).  We’re talking square profile headshot. If you don’t have one, send best you have.

3 — THE POST

I recommend the following structure. Note that I’ll introduce you so jump right to the situation.

INTRO
I’ll start with an introduction based on the brief bio you shared with me.

PARAGRAPH 1 – THE CHALLENGE
What is the situation congregations or Unitarian Universalism at large is facing? What’s the challenge. Tell people your understanding / experience of it.

PARAGRAPH 2 – YOUR ACTION IN RESPONSE
What did you do to address this or do you propose be done?

PARAGRAPH 3 – THE RESULTS
What was the result of your action?  What’s your feeling What do you think the impact of proposed action would be?

PARAGRAPH 4 – REFLECTION
How do you feel about these results? Share your thoughts and emotions.

PARAGRAPH 5 – THE LESSON
What can others learn from this?

CLOSING — CHALLENGE + WISDOM
Recap briefly.

Format as CHALLENGE plus RESPONSE
Next time you face ________ , consider trying ______.  We’ve found this works for reasons A, B, C and cand have results X, Y, Z.

Or format as NEED plus SOLUTION
If you want your congregation to be able to ________, try ______. We’ve found this works for reasons A, B, C and cand have results X, Y, Z.

You don’t need to use this exact outline or any of my exact sampel words. This just to get you started and thinking in terms of an easy to read and digest format.

Remember, we want to hook people reading quickly into reading your full post and learning from you.

4 — RELATED IMAGES AND VIDEOS

If available, a graphic or photo representing the topic of your post. A themed photo greatly increases sharing via Facebook and other social networking sites.

Whenever possible, if you are sharing the story of something you did, an event, etc… it is great to share related photos and videos.   You can send photos as attachments and video URLS for Youtube, Vimeo, or other site.

5 — RESOURCE LINKS and FILE ATTACHMENTS

If you have a resources or files to share, make sure to share the link with me or send the attachment. Sent attachments will be uploaded to the site and linked to from within post.

6— Cross Posting

Have you’re own blog? It is fine to submit posts to be cross posted. This can be a great way to get exposure for a newer site.  If your post is already written and on your site, email me the URL and let me know you’re interested in cross posting.  On the guest post we can include a “Cross posted” notice with a link to your original blog post.
