In the 21st century, what’s a congregation? A gathering of people in a brick and mortar building? What about communities that gather using online communication tools such as Facebook, Twitter, Skype? And what about the virtual world of Second Life? This afternoon I attended a UUA Board-hosted conversation on redefining congregations in our Association’s by-laws. In this segment I meet up with Abbey Tennis to discuss the conversation. Will Saturday’s PLENARY V be a historic vote to no longer specify that UUA member congregations be “local” congregations? (Don Skinner reported on the same event earlier today in his post Workshop: Do congregations need walls?)
Fun Fact: I was the Youth Office manager with Youth Program Specialists Abbey, Duncan and Super-Nathan. When I do my own video blogging series I’ll have to incorporate more pop-up video factoids.

I went to that workshop & took notes to come soon. I think we should all look at our own circumstances in the arena we serve and look at how we can serve them better and do better outreach – leadership training would help us and experience serving, but once we have that, I agree with you that all that ministerial training might not be necessary, except to find professional support when needed if you don’t already have it.
